Are you participating in the Sweet Scallops Tote Sew-Along from See Kate Sew? I heard about it from Mandy at Sugarbee Crafts, and I’m so glad I did. Emboldened by my success with the Layla bag I made here, I decided to try my sewing skills again. I finished my bag last week, and I’m sharing it with you today! Here it is: I made the bag using Riley Blake fabric from the Sugar and Spice line, as well as some leftover canvas and lining I had from some previous projects. Close up on the scallops: Here’s a view of the (boring) inside. My 2 year old thinks it belongs to him. He quite enjoyed filling it with toys. But really, it’s a nice piece of arm candy for me. I’m excited to take it out and about with me.
It’s not too late to join up- if you’re a quick sewer, the link-up is on until NOVEMBER 15th! Head on over here to see all the bags linked up!
I’m also linking up to some of my favorite parties this week- come party with me!

Every year, our church congregation puts on a Trunk or Treat for the church members and their friends. It is always one of our most well-attended activities, and is a lot of fun for grown-ups and kids alike!
We usually have a delicious potluck dinner, a carnival for the kids, a pumpkin-decorating contest, and then, of course, trick-or-treating through a line of car trunks, decorated for the event.
This week’s layout is from two years ago. My kids actually agreed to themed costumes, so they went as Jessie, Buzz, and Mr. Potato Head from Toy Story. You can read a little more about how I made the costumes here.
I kept the layout in classic Halloween colors. Here it is:

It’s that time of year again…. College Football Time!
I graduated from BYU, and while I was there, I was a member of the marching band. In fact, I was even the drum major my senior year! (That’s the person who conducts the band, not someone who plays the drums. Just in case you don’t know.)
So, I went to every home football game for four years. And, I even got to travel with the team a few times. We went to an away game here in Arizona once, the WAC championship (am I dating myself?) in Las Vegas a few times, and I got to travel to bowl games in Dallas TX, Memphis TN, and Detroit MI.
I am actually a band geek. It’s true.
But I also love watching football. It’s so much fun! I get a little sad that I can’t be such a big part of the games anymore, but it’s always fun to cheer on my team.
One of the favorite things I got to do was lead the “fight song” anytime we scored. We also had a really fun march down to the stadium for pregame where we got to play our music, “Go Mighty Cougars”, and the fight song to the gathered crowds as well. So, our fight song is pretty much ingrained in me for life. When I finally decided to make my own BYU shirt, I knew I had to include the “famous” closing chant from the fight song.
The whole stadium chants this and punches their fist in time as the drumline plays. It’s pretty exhilarating! I was inspired by this printable but had to change it up a little to make it more “rhythmically correct”. I told you I’m a band geek. (By the way- I could not get a good picture, but those are exclamation points after “cougars”).
To make this shirt, I used Siser EasyWeed Heat Transfer Vinyl and cut it with my Silhouette. If you do this, make sure you MIRROR your image, and put the shiny side down (the plastic backing) to cut.
Weed away your extra vinyl and you should be left with your design.
Get your shirt ready. I used a relaxed-fit navy blue tee from old Navy- just removed the pocket with a seam ripper. Make sure you put something in between the front and back so you don’t ruin your shirt.
Place your design on the shirt, cover it with a piece of parchment paper, and press with an iron according to the instructions on the vinyl. I used it at highest heat setting, no steam, for about 30 seconds on each piece.
Let it cool for a few minutes, then peel off the plastic backing, and you’re good to go!
Now I have the perfect shirt to throw on when my team plays. (We won the first week- how about your team?)
What would you put on your “spirit shirt”?

Wow- August went fast, didn’t it? Well, I wanted to end the month with a cute baby gift idea. It seems like everyone around me is pregnant or just had babies. I had a hard time with it for awhile because we are pretty sure we are done having kids. I didn’t know if I was feeling the urge to have another one or if I was just feeling left out, since everyone is all pregnant together.
Then I remembered how much I like sleeping through the night.
Anyway, I have had several showers to attend, and in the next few months I have several packages to send. So, I need all the baby gift ideas I can find! Here’s what I put together this time:
For this baby, I sewed up some washcloths. They’re simple squares cut from cotton fabric and terry cloth (I used some thin, soft towels that I cut up just to make a bunch of these!)
I included a lap blanket/burp cloth/changing pad (the dinosaur print on the bottom). It’s made from a soft flannel on one side and jersey knit on the back. It’s not big enough to wrap baby in, but it’s really absorbent and soft, so it has a lot of uses.
Projects like these are great- scrap busters, so it’s useful to the new mom and helps me clear out my fabric closet a little too!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope your weekend is wonderful! Happy Labor Day!
