Occasionally Crafty: Metal Star Challenge: Valerie's Patriotic Stars

Posted by Valerie Earnest

Three tin stars.  Two sisters, separated by a thousand miles.  Two different projects.

Sounds dramatic.  But you know what’s funny?  Even though we didn’t even talk about our projects at all other than the initial idea (I promise!), we still ended up creating something similar.

Guess we really are sisters! 😉  (Check out Laura’s project here if you missed it yesterday.)

A really important day of remembrance is coming up next week- Patriot’s Day.  9/11.  The Day the Towers Fell.  It is probably the news story I will remember first when I recall the important moments of my life.  While I wasn’t personally affected, we had some close calls with friends and family, and just being alive during that day and those that followed is something that will stay with me forever.

So I wanted to create one more patriotic project I could keep up to show my USA colors on Patriot’s Day.  I hope you’ll join with me in flying your flag that day as we all once did in solidarity!

I created my own “Star-Spangled Banner”.

I painted two of my stars brick red and navy blue- because I kind of like the primitive Americana look and those colors brought that out.  The metal oxidized the paint a little two to keep that rustic feeling.

The stars are simply glued to a linen ribbon I picked up at Michaels during their “fall craft haul”.   I tied a pretty bow at the top and included a little loop to hang the banner.

It’s simple, slightly rustic, and perfect for all your patriotic holidays.

We hope you enjoyed our first “Sister’s Challenge”!  We had a great time doing it, so you’ll probably see some more in the coming months.  We’re planning one for fall- what should we start with?
