Valentine’s Day Countdown

One day, I walked through the entire thrift store, looking for something that needed a little love to make it look great again.  I found nothing.  Nothing!  Can you believe it?  And then, just as I was on my way out, my eye caught this dirty, worn little house thing-y. Immediately an idea formed in my little brain.  Did it have….yes, it did!  It would be perfect! I knew it just needed a little cleaning and maybe a fresh coat of paint. Maybe a lot of cleaning. I wasn’t even sure what its original purpose was.  Maybe a display for little ceramics?  All it came with was this cuckcoo clock and cheese.  Hmmm… But once I was done with it, it became the perfect Countdown Calendar. Currently I have it decked out for Valentine’s day.  I’m not crazy enough to do a whole month’s worth of counting down for this holiday, so I only did the February days leading up to the holiday.  But, I’ve already made a set for Halloween, as well as one for Christmas!  (There are exactly 24 spaces- perfect!) The countdown was simple to make with coordinating scrapbook paper, advent numbers from the Silhouette store, and foam tape to make the numbers stand out. I cut the numbers with my Silhouette and attached them to the house using glue dots.
For embellishments, I found some cute foam stickers in the dollar section at Target. My kids will enjoy opening up the paper “doors” and enjoying a sweet treat each day leading up to the holiday. And here it is as part of my Valentine’s Day mantle.  I love it!
I’m linking this up to some of these parties- come check them out with me!
